7. Expressive writing = More involved writers

In this classroom based study using expressive writing, Bilton(2009) asks:
Research Q:‘Will this kind of experiment motivate EFL students to become more involved writers?’
Findings: " Yes. Responses became richer, demonstrating more levels of engagement with the reading passages. The data show that students appeared to be engaged from the outset. The motivating force of fluency arose naturally from their attempts to write and this helped them to overcome the barriers accuracy imposes on writing."

Allowing students to write without judgement created greater engagement, involvement, personalization, open-endedness, and hypothesizing

  • I would like to use a similar categorial evaluation technique. This way I can measure if the student is changing, becoming motivated over time with our narrative or journal dialogue interactions.
